Because a real spec and a fixed price take real work to produce, and a free one is usually a rushed guess that changes later. $900 buys a week of focused scoping you can take anywhere — including somewhere else.

No — payment is split across milestones, agreed during discovery. You're never paying for work that hasn't shipped yet.
We'll tell you on the call, honestly, and suggest a smaller first phase or point you elsewhere. We'd rather say no than take a project we can't deliver well.
The discovery week alone ($900) is a complete, useful deliverable on its own — a spec and fixed price you can hand to any team.
